Members of the Sri Lanka Army Badminton Team who did extremely well to clinch the overall championship in the most recent 12th Defence Services Games (DSG) Badminton Tournament-2023 enjoyed a three-day (17-19 July) long excursion, a symbol of appreciation as proposed and recommended by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu in order to further stimulate them for future gains.
The Army team, both men and women after the year 2018 carried away the overall Championship in Badminton in the DSG Tournament -2023 beating their rivals in a convincing manner.
Pleased with their achievements, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu directed Major General W. Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, Chairman, Army Badminton Committee and General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division to initiate this project in coordination with Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director Sports where those players could draw inspiration, relaxation and joy, away from their routine daily workloads for three days.
Accordingly, the team was taken on this excursion to explore notable historic locations and tourist attractions in Ampara region and afterwards enjoy the splendor of Pasikuda and Arugambay beaches. They also sought blessings visiting several ancient places of worship, inclusive of Muhudumaha Viharaya in Pottuvil, Deegawapi Viharaya, Ampara, and finally the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. All arrangements were in place through the coordination of the Chairman, Army Badminton Committee and the Director Sports.
During the visit to the East, they also visited the School of Artillery, 23 and 24 Infantry Divisions HQs.
