The 20-year old youth, Mr. Thawendiran Madushigan of Kallady, Batticaloa recently undertook the challenge of swimming across the Indian Ocean from Dhanushkodi in India to Talaimannar in Sri Lanka making a record as the 4th person to reach this milestone.
The 231 Infantry Brigade in Batticaloa upon the adventurer’s return to his hometown in Kallady extended a warm welcome and felicitated the achiever inviting him to the 231 Infantry Brigade HQ on a suggestion made by Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Commander, 231 Infantry Brigade.
The Tamil youngster’s expedition took nearly 12 hours and 58 minutes from India to Thalaimannar. The 231 Infantry Brigade Commander during the brief felicitation ceremony commended his courageous act and presented a special memento as a token of appreciation.
During the same ceremony, MJF Lions Club of Batticaloa presented a cash cheque to the youth and spoke high of his commitment.
District Secretary of Batticaloa, Senior Superintendent of Police of Batticaloa Division, Zonal Director of Education - Batticaloa, Principal at St. Michael College - Batticaloa, Batticaloa District Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association and his beloved parents were there to wish the outstanding swimmer Mr. Thawendiran Madushigan good luck with his future endeavours.
