Wanni Troops to Build One More New Home for a Needy Family

The kind sponsorship, extended by Austria-based philanthropists to the Army would enable Wanni troops to construct a new house for a needy family in Maha Elagamuwa area in Suriyagama, Kekirawa as part of their civil-military cooperation projects.

The foundation stone for the new house, meant for Mr R.M Jeewantha Prasad Rathnayake, a father of three children of 1, 5 and 9 years of age was laid on Thursday (22 June) after ground preparations were made by the troops. The family was undergoing a lot of economic difficulties and hardships even without a proper shelter above their heads when the troops were informed of the helpless plight of the family.

On being informed, the Commander, Security Forces-Wanni, together with the General Officer Commanding, 21 Infantry Division and the Commander, 212 Infantry Brigade initiated the project after those donors, Ms Krita Peiris and Nihal Harishchandra from Austria pledged their financial support to the Army for construction of this new house for this helpless family.

Troops of 7 (V) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps gave their manpower assistance and technical expertise to initiate this project to be completed within weeks.

The foundation stone for the construction of the house was auspiciously laid by Colonel R.M.C Rathnayake RWP RSP USP, Commander, 212 Infantry Brigade, officers, soldiers and the beneficiaries during a brief ceremony.
