Troops of the 14 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (14 VIR) of the 142 Infantry Brigade conducted a training session on 'Map Reading and Navigation’ for School Cadets at Mahanama College, Colombo on Thursday (June 15) at the request of school authorities.
The objective of this workshop was to provide the Cadets with basic knowledge on map reading and equip them with the skills to navigate using maps. The lecture consisted of both theoretical and practical sessions, focusing on basic map reading, including the introduction of maps, the use of the Silva Compass, etc.
One Officer and four Other Ranks of the 14 VIR placed their expertise and experience before the participants and helped the Cadets to understand the concepts of map reading. Similarly, Army personnel used their practical knowledge and skills to demonstrate the use of the Silva Compass and other essential tools used in map reading.
The Commanding Officer of the 14 VIR and the Commander of the 142 Infantry Brigade supervised the programme under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces - West and the General Officer Commanding of the 14 Infantry Division.
