54 Infantry Division troops of the Security Force HQ-Wanni (SF-W) in coordination with a Canada-based donor installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant for purification of drinking water for 125 families at Shanipuram who have been suffering without access to drinking water for a long time.
Mr Kosala Kariyawasam, a businessman residing in Canada provided the required monetary assistance and troops of the 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (4 VIR) took responsibility for installation of the project giving priority.
This project was initiated under the guidance of Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, (SF-W), and Major General Nalinda Niyangoda, General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division. It was implemented under the close supervision of Brigadier Thushara Harasgama, Commander, 543 Infantry Brigade, and Major Y.R Wimalarathna, Commanding Officer, 4 VIR.
The newly-installed Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant was inaugurated on Tuesday (Feb 14) by Most Rev. Dr Emmanuel Fernando, Bishop of Mannar. Commander, 543 Infantry Brigade, Officers, Other Ranks and beneficiaries participated in the inaugural occasion.
