Sponsorships extended jointly by the Past Pupils' Association of Royal College, Colombo and the Alumni Association of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, through the coordination of Mr. Prabath Lokubalasuriya, the founder of 'Atha Hitha' Foundation enabled Army personnel of the 612 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ- West to distribute a large stock of school accessories among 200 needy students studying in 10 schools in the Matugama Zonal Education office area on 24 February 2023 after gathering them to the Meril Kariyawasam National College at Meegahatenna.
Prior to this community project, 612 Infantry Brigade troops made all the arrangements as per directions of the Commander Security Forces-West, Major General Deepal Pussella and guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General Udaya Herath along with the Commander 612 Infantry Brigade Colonel Jayanath Perera.
Each relief pack, aimed at supporting the upgrade of the education of underprivileged school children, each consisted of exercise and c-4 writing books, to the value of Rs. 3600/= and the total project cost around Rs. 7,20,000/=.
The General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division, Major General Udaya Herath, joined the distribution ceremony as the chief guest on behalf of the Commander, Security Forces-West at the invitation of the Commander 612 Infantry Brigade.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, sponsors and school staff were also present at the distribution location.
