Aimed at further fostering civil-military relations, harmony and goodwill and developing sportsmanship among sports enthusiasts in Tambalagamuwa, Kinniya, and Muttur area, a cricket tournament was organized by the 22 Infantry Division with the support of 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and the 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry along with 223 Infantry Brigade at the Tambalagamuwa Public Stadium during 22-26 February 2023.
A total of 46 teams in the civil sector participated in the cricket tournament. The BMS team Kinniya and Heaven Eleven team Kinniya qualified for the final match, held on Sunday (February 26). The BMS team Kinniya won the championship of the tournament, and the rival, Heaven Eleven team in Kinniya secured the runner-up place in the finals.
To successfully organize this tournament, financial sponsorship was extended for trophies by the heads of institutions of all government/non-government institutions and Divisional Secretariat, Tambalamuwa. The Sri Lanka Service Corps Band, the Taekwondo team and cultural dance team of the 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment, and the cultural dance team of the District Secretariat, Tambalagamuwa added more glamour to the event. The Zonal Director of Education and the staff along with students of Kollam Kutitam College, Tambalagamuwa also gave their support for smooth conduct of the event.
Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, Commander, of Security Forces (East) witnessed the finals in the tournament as the Chief Guest. Mr. B.H.N Jayawickrama, District Secretary of Trincomalee, Major General Saliya Amunugama, the General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division, the Brigade Commander of the 223 Infantry Brigade, the Divisional Secretaries of the area, Commanding Officer of the Parakumbha Navy Camp, Assistant Superintendent of Police Morawewa, Commanding Officers of 6 Sri Lanka Armored Corps and 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Officers, Other Ranks, other dignitaries and cricket fans of the area witnessed the final tournament at Tambalagamuwa Stadium.
