Major General Prasad Edirisinghe, General Officer Commanding, 65 Infantry Division assumed duties as the 23rd Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch (GW) in addition to his office at the 65 Infantry Division on Saturday (March 04) amidst religious observances at the GW-Regimental Centre, Kuruwita.
The programme began after a warm welcome was extended to the incoming Colonel of the Regiment by Brigadier Janaka Wimalarathna, Centre Commandant, GW. A colourful Guard Turnout at the main entrance saluted him before he paid a floral tribute to the fallen war heroes at the War Heroes' Monument in the camp premises.
Moments later, he was saluted by GW troops at the parade square with a ceremonial Guard of Honour before he was invited to sit for a group photograph adding memories to the day. Afterwards, he symbolically accepted his new duties placing his signature in an official document amidst Pirith chanting of the members of the Maha Sangha.
Finally, he received updates on the administrative aspects of the Regiment during a conference arranged at the main conference hall, RHQ-GW with the RHQ Staff Officers.
