The three-day long 58th Army Athletic Championship which enabled Army athletes to showcase their skills establishing several national and Army records concluded on Friday (Mar 31) making the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) athletes as champions.
More than 600 athletes representing all the Regiments in the Army vied in the Athletic meet for glory and medals during 29-31 March. Furthermore, 08 Army records and 04 National records were made during the meet.
The Army Athletic Meet was organized by the Army Athletic Committee (AAC) under the guidance of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Chairman, AAC under the close supervision of Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi, Secretary to the AAC.
The closing session on Thursday (31), attended by Senior Officers awarded trophies and certificates of excellence. The final achievements are as follows:
1st Place - Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical with 292 points
2nd Place - Sri Lanka Artillery with 242 points
3rd Place - Sri Lanka Light Infantry with 138 points
4th Place - Sri Lanka Army Service Corps with 96 points
5th Place - Gemunu Watch with 83 points
6th Place - Gajaba Regiment with 27 points
7th Place - Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment with 18 points
7th Place - Sri Lanka National Guard with 18 points
9th Place - Sri Lanka Signal Corps with 12 points
10th Place - Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment with 6 points
11th Place - Sri Lanka Armoured Corps with 5 points
12th Place - Sri Lanka Engineers with 2 points
