Army-managed Ridiyagama & Iranamadu farms are currently engaged in collecting the Maha season paddy harvest in more than 20 acres and other seasonal crops according to the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock (SLACAL) who are responsible for running those farms.
The food security programme in the Army received a boost after the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage in the most recent past established the Green Agriculture Steering Committee.
The harvests reaped from Army farms are provided for the consumption of Army personnel and the excess is sold to outside civilians at subsidized price.
