With Donors' Support, Troops Initiate Distribution of Relief Packs to 200 Families

On account of the forthcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year, 593 Infantry Brigade troops of the 59 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force HQ-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) initiated a project to distribute a large stock of dry rations and food items free of charge among 200 needy families living in the general area of Mullaittivu on Thursday (6 April) after inviting them to the 19 Gemunu Watch camp premises at Kohobagashandiya.

Ven Nagalagamuwe Sumana Thero coordinated the financial support to this event with the support of overseas-based philanthropists. 5 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 19 Gemunu Watch troops under the close supervision of respective Commanding Officers of those Battalions organized the event on the guidelines given by Major General Mahinda Ranasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division and Colonel Chinthaka Wijenayaka, Commander, 593 Infantry Brigade.

Major General Darshana Wijesekara, Commander, Security Forces Mullaittivu graced the distribution programme as the chief guest. Each beneficiary received a bag of dry rations, each worth Rs 5000/= including dhal, rice, potatoes, onions, chili powder, etc.

Ven Thisspura Sri Gunarathne Thero, Chief Incumbent at Kokilai Sri Sambodhi temple, Mr.Sunil Wijewardana, Mr. Mahinda Subasinghe and Mr Chammi Sumedha, representatives of the donor group, General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, several invitees and recipients participated in the event.
