Army personnel of 3 (v) Gemunu Watch Battalion serving under the 613 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division contributed their manpower to the Beach and Coral Reef Cleaning Programme, themed 'Sayura Rakina Rella Samaga Ekwa Sayurata Husmak,' along the Kapparathota coastal belt, Weligama on 10 April 2023.
It was organized by Matara Regional Office of the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA). Responding to the request made by the Marine Environment Protection Authority, troops with the approval of the Commander Security Forces-West, contributed to the community-oriented project.
The General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division and Commander, 613 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of 3 (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch closely monitored the Army involvement.
Officials of Weligama Sampath Bank, Weligama Bay Dive Center and Kapparathota NARA - Regional Research Center also assisted in launching this beach cleaning programme.
