Women’s Corps Regimental Centre Marks New Year

The Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) refreshing hopes for the New Year staged their own Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival at the SLAWC Regimental HQ premises at Borella on Tuesday (11).

The festival was filled with a number of Sinhala and Tamil traditional events, Tug-of-war, Selection of the “Avurudu Kumari” (New Year Princess), eye-placing on the elephant, bun-eating and several other games.

Major General U D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu and the Colonel Commandant of SLAWC, Mrs Shyamali Wijesekera, Chairperson of SLAWC Seva Vanitha Branch attended as Chief Guests and gave away gifts and incentives to the winners in the games and competitions.

The event, attended by Officers, Other Ranks and family members was organized by the SLAWC Regiment center together with 1 SLAWC troops on the directions of Colonel Commandant SLAWC.

Subsequently, civil employees serving the regimental center and 1 SLAWC were given special dry ration packs and gift parcels by Major General U D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Mrs. Shyamali Wijesekera and Brigadier J K R Jayakody RWP USP, Centre Commandant of SLAWC regimental center in a special gesture during the ceremony.
