A chain of community services, sports events, conduct of religious events and military formalities marked the 12th anniversary day of the 12 Infantry Division HQ at Nagarawewa, Hambantota during 27 March - 08 April 2023.
All anniversary arrangements, organized on the guidelines given by Major General G. M. N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 12 Infantry Division began with a ‘Shramadana campaign’ where both roadsides from Katuwewa Junction to the Camp were cleared on 27 March 2023.
Subsequently, friendly cricket tournaments with the participation of Officers, Other Ranks and civil staff in all under command formations got underway during 28 - 30 March 2023.
As one more segment of the anniversary events, a delicious lunch was offered to 17 children with special needs along with essentials and accessories at Kanchadeva Children’s Home in Siribopura, Hambantota.
The anniversary day’s proceedings began with a customary Guard Turnout, presented to the General Officer Commanding at the entrance to the HQ.
Tree planting and opening of a newly-constructed gymnasium took place in the compound on the same day before General Officer Commanding formally addressed the troops and sat for an all rank lunch.
As the final event of the anniversary arrangements, a musical entertainment kicked off on 8 April 2023 at 12 Infantry Division ground as dusk fell.
Commander, Security Forces-Central, Major General W. R. M. M Rathnayake RWP RSP USP ndu attended the inauguration of the musical evening as the Chief Guest.
