A discussion that focused on child rights for education, development of good ethics, prevention of drug usage among students, cleaning of city, community care programmes and tree planting project got under way at the 54 Infantry Division HQ on 5 April 2023 with the objective of encouraging and motivating respective authorities for specific projects as mentioned above.
Major General W. W. H. R. R. V. M. N. D. K. B Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division presided and it was attended by Mannar District Secretary, Mrs A Stanly De Mel, Mannar Zonal Education Director, Mrs G. D Thevarajah, Madu Zonal Education Director Mrs S Valanthine, Brigade Commanders and Senior Officers of the 54 Infantry Division.
The General Officer Commanding briefed the gathering on the importance of initiatives, being taken in order to promote various aspects in society and preventing the young generation from anti-social events in the future.
The District Secretary, Mannar thanked the attendees and appreciated the new initiatives, being taken by members of the armed forces to make our society better and better.
