The 57 Infantry Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) with the aim of popularizing netball among school-goers organized a friendly netball tournament among students in 11 schools in the Kilinochchi Educational Zone during 20-21 April 2023 at the Sports Complex in Kilinochchi.
Major General J.P.C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding of 57 Infantry Division with the blessings of Major General U.D Wijesekara RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander, SF-MLT proposed the project which drew huge enthusiasm among netball fans.
During the tournament, the team in the Mukkampan Maha Vidyalaya emerged as champions to claim the trophy pushing the teams of Vaddakachchi Central College and St. Theresa Girls' College to be runners-up respectively.
Major General U.D Wijesekara RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander, SF-MLT watched the final encounter as the chief guest and awarded trophies and certificates to the winners, achievers and participants. Directors of the Zonal Education Office, Principals and teachers, Army and Police Officers and a large crowd of local fans were present during the final encounter.
