The 6th workshop for improvement of agricultural knowledge and leadership, themed “Haritha Niyamuwo” (green pioneers), organized by the Wayamba Training Institute in collaboration with 1 Sri Lanka National Guard (1 SLNG) troops in Kurunegala got underway at Wayamba Training Institute premises in Wariyapola on Saturday (22).
70 students from Sri Nissanka Vidyalaya, Vidyaloka Vidyalaya and Uhumeeya College in the Kurunegala District, interested in green agriculture and enhancement of knowledge on leadership traits participated in the project.
During workshop sessions, troops assisted the participants providing physical training instructors as well as conducting leadership sessions that included theoretical and practical group activities, essential for students. The project also focused on food security, weather changes, manuring, watering, sunlight factors, global food safety programmes, etc.
Brigadier T.M.F Kitchilan RWP RSP, Commander, 143 Infantry Brigade and Major K.A.S.P Kumara, Commanding Officer of 1 SLNG closely monitored the Army assistance on the instructions of Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commander, Security Forces - West.
Recently on 1 April 2023, the same workshop was conducted at Dambadeniya Maha Vidyalaya and Jayanthi Navodya Central College in Nikaweratiya with the participation of 70 students of both schools.
