Brigadier H.V.A Somaweera RWP RSP USP of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry assumed duties as the new Commandant at Kalaoya Centre for Army Vocational Training (CAVT) on Monday (April 24) amidst religious observances and military formalities.
The incoming Commandant was warmly welcomed by Colonel I.G.J.P Thilakarathne USP, Commanding Officer, CAVT after he was greeted with a Guard Turnout at the entrance. Afterwards, he symbolically left his signature in an official document, signifying the acceptance of his new office after observance of religious rites and rituals. He also left memories by planting a mango sapling inside the CAVT compound.
Moments later, he posed for a few group photographs with the troops and addressed all the Officers and Other Ranks serving in the CAVT before he participated in an All Rank tea.
Prior to this appointment, Brigadier H.V.A Somaweera RWP RSP USP served as the Commander of the 142 Infantry Brigade. He succeeds Brigadier A.M.S Premawansha RWP RSP USP who is expected to retire shortly.
