Troops of the 12 Gemunu Watch (12 GW) and the 2 (V) Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) of the Security Force HQ - East (SFHQ-E) erected a new Buddhist nunnery for nuns at Dalukana in Polonnaruwa in response to a request, made by Ven. (nun) Aralaganwila Vajira Dammadeepa Therani to the Army.
Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces-East, coincident with the Thrice Blessed Day (Vesak) formally inaugurated the newly-constructed monastery 'Paramee Dam’ for Buddhist nuns on Saturday (06 May) during a simple ceremony at the invitation of the incumbent Therani.
Mr Ashoka Palansooriya, Chairman, Manampitiya Motors Ltd provided necessary monetary assistance for the construction of this new monastery for nuns. 12 GW and 2 (V) SLSC troops lent the manpower and technical expertise for the project under the supervision of respective Commanding Officers, Major R.A.S.L Ranasinghe and Major K.V.A Kodikara.
Commander, SF - E, together with Mr Ashoka Palansooriya graced the inaugural ceremony as chief guests.
Colonel H.S.P.C Halpage, Chief Coordinator for Civil Affairs, SFHQ - E, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Battalions were also present during the inaugural event.
