553 Infantry Brigade troops, 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 10 Field Engineers took the lead in renovating and re-doing the road patch between Vettilaikerni to Mulliyan since the road remained dilapdated and full of potholes and road slips.
The Commander, 553 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier G.S.K Perera RSP initiated the project as this road is being used by civilians and troops for their administrative purposes. Due to its poor condition, the movement of vehicles was restricted and the road had not been attended for years.
Troops within days filled up potholes, renovated it and made the road motorable once again. The road access from Vettilaikerni up to the A9 road at Iyyakachchi via the ancient Mulliyan Kovil in Vadamarachchi - East Divisional Secretariat is also popular among Hindu devotees.
It was formally completed on 30th April 2023. 553 Infantry Brigade, 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 10 Field Engineers troops with several Hindu priests and civilians were there to re-open the renovated road. Civilians and troops afterwards joined hands together to clean up surroundings on both sides of the rod patch as a community project.
