Army rugby players, both men and women in the Defence Services Games (DSG) - 2023 Rugby Championship held during May 9 - 23 at the Sri Lanka Air Force ground in Ratmalana shone prominently.
All Tri-Service teams vied for the men's and women’s championships but the Army Women’s Rugby team in a thrilling tussle clinched the Gold Medal beating their rivals in the Navy. The score stood at 12 - 00 points. However, the Army Men’s team after a close fight secured the Silver Medal scoring 27 - 20 points against Navy Men’s team.
Lance Corporal D.C.T Liyanage of the Army Women’s Corps achieved the Best Player award in the Women’s category.
Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director, Directorate of Sports, Tri-Service Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the exciting tussles.
