10 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of the 541 Infantry Brigade of 54 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ-Wanni showing their concern and compassion towards an ex-combatant of the terrorist organization, LTTE, used their own resources and funds to build a much-required bathroom and its attached toilet.
Mr. Erambu Shivananda Rasa of Pappamotai, Udayan, in Adampan, Mannar who had lost one leg during the fighting against Security Forces for division of the country before May 2009 has been undergoing difficulties at both physical and economic levels when the troops observed his plight and informed the 541 Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier Dasantha Munasinghe of the desperate living standards of the ex-combatant.
Troops promptly demonstrating the fact that ‘Army is always with a Heart’ got together and pocketed out their own money on their own and decided to erect this sanitary facility for the benefit of this handicapped ex-combatant who is now leading a hand to mouth life.
On Monday (16) Commander, Brigadier Dasantha Munasinghe, 541 Infantry Brigade with the blessings of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division went to the location and informed the beneficiary of its readiness for usability.
Several businessmen and donors in Mannar supported the Army project by providing necessary accessories for the construction.
Civil Affairs Officer, 541 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer, 10 (V) GW together with Other Ranks participated in the brief occasion.
