143 Infantry Brigade troops of the 14 Infantry Division under the Security Force Headquarters -West with the intention of providing educational assistance for needy school students at D.S. Senanayake College in Karuwalagaswewa donated a large stock of school accessories and stationeries following a sponsorship, extended by Mrs Thushari Ranaweera, Assistant Director (Legal), Hatton National Bank (HNB) and Mrs S Korathota, Retired Bank Officer.
The stock, worth Rs 100,000/- for those 8 needy school children, selected by 16 Battalion of Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops serving the area was distributed on Sunday (08 January) visiting their door steps.
Accordingly, on the directions of Major General Deepal Pussella, the Commander of the Security Forces -West and under the guidelines of Major General Roshan Jayamanna, the General Officer Commanding of the 14 Infantry Division, Brigadier Faumi Kichilan, the Brigade Commander of the 143 Infantry Brigade with 16 GR troops made all arrangements to this effect.
The Principal at D.S. Senanayake College in Karuwalagaswewa - Puttalam gave his maximum support for the project in coordination with Major S.A.D.P Jayarathne, Commanding Officer, 16 GR. Several Officers and Other Ranks and invitees attended the distributing occasions.
