New Year’s First Scholarly Session at Army HQ ‘Diners Club’ Touches Contemporary Issues

The importance of seeking practical solutions and successful implementation of policies to deliver economic growth and better living standards and to properly identify the challenges that are obligatory to overcome in order to reach the future economic goals of the country at large was underlined at the Army HQ Diners Club organized by the Directorate of Research, Concept and Doctrine on Thursday evening (5).

Professor H.D Karunarathna, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, the guest lecturer for the evening at the invitation of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army and the Directorate of Research Concept and Doctrine enlightened a representative gathering of Army Officers on the topic, themed “Restructuring the Economy of Sri Lanka: Holistic Approach to Overcome the Present Challenges” during the session that broadened the horizons of knowledge of Army members on widely-spoken contemporary economic issues in Sri Lanka and how they could be addressed.

“Seeking practical solutions through fiscal and monitoring policies restructuring to deliver the economic growth identifying and addressing the challenges that are obligatory to overcome in order to achieve macro-economic goals of the country at large are needed to be addressed on priority basis on a collective platform,” the scholar highlighted in his contribution to the session.

The interactive session followed an interesting question-answer session where the attendees were able to seek clarifications about issues of their concern.

At the end of the session, the Chief of Staff, Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu on behalf of the Commander of the Army presented an appreciative memento to the guest lecturer, Professor H.D Karunarathna and expressed his gratitude for accepting the Army invitation.

Delivering the welcome speech, Brigadier Anurudda Seneviratne, Director, Directorate of Research, Concept and Doctrine extended a warm welcome to the guest lecturer for gracing the event. He further highlighted the importance of the topic selected whilst explaining that the subject matter touched a wide variety of areas in both military and civil life. The vote of thanks was delivered by Lieutenant Colonel D.L.U De Thabrew, Colonel Doctrine, Directorate of Research Concept and Doctrine.

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Commandant Volunteer Force, Principal Staff Officers, Directors and other Senior Officers at the Army Headquarters were also associated with the event.
