6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 583 Infantry Brigade of the 58 Infantry Division serving Kurunegala area promptly swept into action and rescued an elderly woman, trapped in the gushing flood water caused by torrential rains in the past 48 hours.
The elderly woman had been all alone in her home at Makulwewa when heavy rains lashed and inundated the area cutting her home off from any contact with neighbours since her house had also been badly affected.
On being informed of her helpless predicament by one of her neighbours, a group of eleven 6 VIR troops including an officer on the directions of the 583 Infantry Brigade Commander and the General Officer Commanding, 58 Infantry Division immediately using a rescue boat reached the house and evacuated her from the flood-affected house.
