The Security Force HQ-Wanni (SFHQ-W), prepared to help deserving communities at all levels succeeded in erecting one more new house for a needy family in Rasendrakulam area in Vavuniya with generosity, extended by a collective of local and overseas-based 12 philanthropists who placed the full confidence in the Army capacity and expertise for such work.
On being informed of the miserable living condition of Mrs Shantha and her family members including children, Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander Security Forces-Wanni explored possibilities of erecting a suitable home for them with the support of overseas-based expatriates and local donors. A collective of 12 philanthropists accordingly got together and came forward to support this worthy cause, launched by the Army in the Wanni. Divisional Secretary for Vavuniya and state officials in respective areas lent their cooperation to the worthy cause at the request of the SFHQ-Wanni.
17 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops under the supervision of their Commanding Officer, Major G.W.A.S.L De Alwis in consultation with the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division, Major General Manjula Kariyawasam and the Commander, 562 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Anura Jayasekera completed the construction of the new house within few weeks using their technical and engineering skills.
On Friday (Dec 9), Major General Champaka Ranasinghe as the Chief Guest during a simple ceremony, together with District Secretary for Vavuniya Mr P. A Sarathchandra, several representative donors, Divisional Secretary for Vavuniya, Mr N. Kamaladasan, General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division, Brigade Commanders of the 561, 562, and 563 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers, senior officers, relatives of the beneficiary, villagers and invitees attended the formal warming ceremony of the new house where the keys were handed over.
