Major General M.K Jayawardena, the newly-appointed 22nd Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) assumed his duties amid religious blessings during a simple ceremony on Monday (Dec 05) at the SLE Headquarters premises in Panagoda.
The new Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by Brigadier Manoj Madurapperuma, Centre Commandant - SLE on arrival and was saluted in a colourful Guard Turnout. It followed floral wreath-laying at the War Heroes’ monument in memory of fallen heroes of the SLE who made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the motherland.
Thereafter, Major General M.K Jayawardena symbolically placed his signature for an official document that marked his assuming of the responsibilities amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha in the presence of Senior Officers and the staff at the Corps Headquarters.
The day’s event ended with an All Rank tea arrangement before he addressed the troops.
