Major General Darshana Wijesekara took over duties as the 23rd Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) on 06 December during a brief ceremony, held at the SLAWC Regimental Center, Borella.
Brigadier Chaminda Thibbotuge, Center Commandant, SLAWC welcomed Major General Darshana Wijesekara on his arrival at the camp premises and invited him to take the Guard of Honour in accordance with military traditions. Later, he placed his signature symbolically for an official document amidst religious blessings and marked the acceptance of his new responsibilities.
Later, setting out his scope of work and duties, Major General Darshana Wijesekara spoke to the troops as a formality and outlined the importance of working as a team for the prosperity of the country and the promotion of the Army image.
He succeeds Major General Mahinda Jayawardena, who has now been appointed as the Chief Field Engineer and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Engineers. Major General Darshana Wijesekara, prior to this new appointment served as the General Officer Commanding, 54 Division.
