Army Chief Condoles with Brig Panduka Perera’s Family Members

The funeral of Brigadier Panduka Perera, Commander, 563 Brigade of the Security Force HQ-Wanni who passed away on Friday (31) while receiving treatment for post-recovery medical complications of the COVID-19 virus at the Infectious Disease Hospital at Mulleriyawa took place at Eldeniya cemetery this afternoon (3) amidst military honours and a gathering of his close military colleagues, family members and mourners.

Just an hour before the cortege left Brigadier Panduka Perera’s residence at Kadawatha, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army paid his respect to the senior infantryman by laying a floral wreath and saluting the remains.

The Army Chief with the bereaved family during his stay expressed deep sorrow on Brigadier Panduka Perera’s untimely death and assured them all possible assistance for their future well-being.

Around the same time, General Shavendra Silva shared a few thoughts with Mrs Panduka Perera, the spouse of late senior officer and his children and condoled on his unexpected departure.

General Shavendra Silva also paid courtesies to Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Member of Parliament who also joined the mourners at the same location. Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka before retirement served as Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, to which the deceased Senior Officer belonged.
