The recently-appointed 20th Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General Nishantha Herath began his new office during a ceremony, held at the SLE Headquarters on Friday (24).
He was greeted to honours in a Guard Turnout on arrival and ceremonials before a gathering of Officers and Other Ranks. The day’s Chief Guest on his arrival at the Corps Headquarter, was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier Manoj Madurapperuma. Afterwards, the Colonel Commandant laid a floral wreath at the War Heroes’ monument to pay his tribute to the memory of fallen ones before the Chief Guest was greeted in a ceremonial parade.
Thereafter, he placed his signature symbolically to signify the acceptance of the new office amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha in the presence of Senior Officers and the staff at the SLE Headquarters.
As the next event of the day’s ceremony, the Colonel Commandant addressed the Officers who were present at the ceremony and all other serving Officers of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers via Zoom technology.
Major General Nishantha Herath is presently performing duties as the Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College at Sapugaskanda. The programme was held strictly in compliance with the COVID-19 health guidelines.
