Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces - East, formally relinquished duties as the 21st Commander, Security Forces - East on Tuesday (14) in order to assume office as the new Commandant at Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) HQ at Seethawakapura.
Military formalities commenced with the review of the Guard Turnout, accorded to the outgoing Commander on arrival at the venue. The Commander, Security Forces - East was afterwards invited to take the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented to him by 4 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops in keeping with military traditions.
After posing for a group photograph with General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and Staff Officers of the Security Force HQ - East, the outgoing Commander addressed the troops where he thanked everyone for the dedication and cooperation extended to achieve desired results in the Eastern theatre as a cohesive military force.
Major General Channa Weerasuriya was also invited to re-open completely renovated Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess at the Headquarters premises before he joined a separate farewell ceremony, organized at the Officers’ Mess. In keeping with military traditions, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier Jagath Weerakoon presented a memento to the outgoing SF-E Commander in appreciation of his services. The outgoing Commander also placed his signature in the Visitors’ Book before he left the premises.
A street-line salute was presented to him as his motorcade began moving out of the SFHQ-E premises.
