Hambantota-based 12 Division troops of the Security Force HQ - Central adding their weight to the Army’s ongoing house construction project for needy civilians built a new house for Mr K.H Piyaratne of New Town, Weerawila considering his miserable plight with family members.
Sponsorship for raw materials for its construction was provided by the philanthropist Mr D Amaratunga at the request of Ven Ulgalmote Thilakasiri Thero, Chief Incumbent at Sri Nikethanaaramaya in Piliyandala.
Major General Asoka Peiris, Chief Signal Officer and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Signal Corps has coordinated the humanitarian project in close cooperation with the General Officer Commanding of the 12 Division Headquarters in Hambantota, Major General Prasanna Ranawaka.
On Sunday (28), the Army-built new house was vested in the beneficiary during a simple ceremony, headed by Major General Prasanna Ranawaka, the donor Mr D Amarathunga, several representative donors and Army personnel after observing house-warming formalities and traditions.
Commander, 122 Brigade, Brigadier Janaka Pallekumbura, and the Commanding Officer of the 23 Gajaba Regiment Lieutenant Colonel W.P. Hemajith along with several other junior officers and other ranks participated in the simple ceremony following health guidelines.
