The 54 Division Headquarters in Mannar following sponsorship received from UK-based Sweshini Organization through the coordination of Mr Ravi Rajapaksha gifted 37 cement bags to the Joseph Vas Church for Nuns in need of cement for its construction of the parapet wall around the premises.
The Church, situated in Murunkan, Kalimotai area in Mannar has been offered the manpower, technical and engineering skills of 542 Brigade troops for the construction at the request of the church authorities.
Troops of the 8 VIR under command to 542 Brigade troops have undertaken the construction of the wall on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Division considering it as another community project of the Headquarters.
The GOC, 54 Division, Major General U.D Wijesekera, Brigade Commander, 542 Brigade, Colonel Coordination 54 Division and the Commanding Officer 8 VIR participated in the inaugural occasion and delivery of the cement stock to the Church.
