5 Field Engineer Regiment troops of the Army under the close supervision of the 5 SLE Commanding Officer Major L Rathnayaka and Plant Engineer Brigade Commander, Brigadier Anuruddha Senevirathna are currently continuing road renovation projects from Dehigasmulla to Helamba (1.4 km) and Kosgashandiya to Nelumuyana village (1 km) in close consultation with the Road Development Authority.
The project was entrusted to the Sri Lanka Army Engineers as part of the government's 100,000 rural road infrastructure development strategy and its estimated cost is provided by the Road Development Authority.
Under the Direction of the General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, Army Chief Field Engineer, Major General Nihal Amarasekara and the General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division Major General Chandana Wijayasundera are providing necessary instructions and guidance to those troops, engaged in projects.
