613 Brigade and 14 (V) GW and 1 Corps of Engineer Services under the 61 Division of the Security Force HQ-West took steps to establish one ICU at the new ICC building in Akmeemana, Ruhuna National College of Education on Tuesday (25) in order to face any surge in the number of COVID-19 infectees in the region.
The ICU was made a reality with the support of the Health officials and workers at Akmeemana hospital in coordination with the Commander, Security Forces - West in order to accommodate COVID patients in an emergency. Troops completed the project as per guidelines given by the Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander Security Forces-West.
This ICU conversion process started on the directions of the Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army with the cooperation and coordination of Major General Dammi Hewage, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division & Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku, Commander 613 Brigade.
