20 GR Troops in 62 Division Builds One More Home with Media Channel Support

Troops of the 20 Gajaba Regiment under command to the 62 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-Wanni jointly constructed a new home for a needy family at the 9th Post area in Mahasenpura, Pulmoddai with sponsorship received from the MTV/MBC, ‘Sirasa’ Media network through its ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ project on the directions given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army after the project sponsors sought the Army assistance in this regard.

Brigadier Upali Gunasesekera, General Officer Commanding, 62 Infantry Division enabled the technically-skilled engineering and other troops to complete the project with funds and resources, made available by the ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ project, engaged in constructing houses for the needy in remote areas.

General Officer Commanding, 62 Infantry Division Brigadier Upali Gunasesekera graced the auspicious inaugural house-warming as the Chief Guest, together with the Commander 621 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Keerthi Perakum, Mr. Priyantha Wijesinghe, Director Public Relations Head of the MTV and MBC Network, Mr Sajith Rathnayake, Channel Head of Sirasa FM and Officers representing the ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ programme on Friday (09).

After the plight of poverty-stricken Mrs Nayanamali Dilhara’s living condition was brought to the notice, the sponsors in order to mitigate the costs turned to the Commander of the Army in search of Army manpower and construction skills for erection of this much-needed house.

In accordance with ancient traditions, the day’s Chief Guest and the sponsors at the auspicious minute unveiled a plaque, joined oil-lamp lighting and milk-pot boiling rituals, together with beneficiaries and handed the keys of the new house to the beneficiary.
