New SLA's Colonel Commandant Makes First Visit to Minneriya Artillery Complex

The recently-appointed Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) and Commander, Security Forces – Kilinochchi Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda paid his maiden visit to the Artillery Complex Minneriya during 22 -23 November 2020 after assumption of office as the new Colonel Commandant -SLA.

On arrival, the Colonel Commandant was accorded a Guard Turnout at the School of Artillery entrance and welcomed by the Commandant School of Artillery. Commencing the programme, the Commander Artillery Brigade delivered the welcome speech and a brief presentation on training and administrative aspects of the Artillery Complex followed, made by the Commandant at School of Artillery. The briefings of Commanding Officer of the 7 SLA and the Officer in Charge at the Gunners' Club on their relevant fields ensued and educated the visiting Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda.

During the troop address, Colonel Commandant conveyed his vision and stressed the importance of training in different professional aspects of the career and maintenance of the highest standards of discipline.

During the field visits, he inspected the progress of the constructions and renovations underway at the School of Artillery, HQ Artillery Brigade, 7 SLA premises and Artillery Electrical Mechanical & Engineering Battalion. He highlighted the importance of enhancement of infrastructure facilities, relevant to accommodation facilities of the Officers and Other Ranks.

He also closely witnessed a demonstration on trial version of novel target system, installed at the School of Artillery Miniature Range, based on Android Operating System. Furthermore, his keen interest on sports activities was evident when he gave instructions to upgrade some sporting arenas such as the Cricket Ground, Basketball Court, Squash Court and the Tennis Court in the Artillery Complex.
