Brigadier (Retd) Pragnarathna Bandara Laid to Rest amid Honours

The military funeral of late Brigadier (Retd) Pragnarathna Bandara (84) who passed away on Monday (9) took place this afternoon (11) at Piliyandala crematorium amid a gathering of his contemporaries and mourners.

His funeral procession represented by Army Senior Officers, including Major General Chula Abeynayake, Commander, Security Forces-West, senior officers of the Gemunu Watch (GW) and several Senior Army Officers commenced marching before the troops in accordance with military traditions received the remains, presenting arms, prior to its placing on the gun carriage.

Those participating in the solemn funeral ceremony in the cemetery afterwards listened to the Special Part I Order, issued by Major General Sena Waduge, Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army on behalf of the Commander of the Army. It was read out to the gathering by a Senior Officer before the deceased's regalia were delivered to the next of kin of late Brigadier.

As the skies were turning gloomy, the Sri Lanka Army band began playing hymns as an eight-man military team of bearers carried the casket, draped in the National Flag to the crematorium.

Firing of symbolic 11 gun salute, the highest tribute a military officer could get in the event of his death and sounding of the Last Post, the bugle call that symbolized his eternal rest brought the military formalities to end.
