The Dayaka Sabha of the Sri Sambodhi Viharaya in collaboration with the 'Bauddahaya' TV channel this evening (10) was generous in gifting a much-needed Biological Safety Cabinet to the Colombo Army Hospital which would ensure PCR samples of COVID-19 patients are carried out without contacting the outside or even air with the best of technological safety in any laboratory.
Ven Boralande Vajirangna Thero, Chief incumbent of the 'Sambodhi' Viharaya and Chairman, 'Bauddhaya 'TV after meeting Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, together with Dr Harsha Alles, Chairman, Dayake Sabha at the hospital premises donated this medical equipment, Biological Safety Cabinet to the Colombo Army Hospital in Narahenpita.
Currently, the Army PCR laboratory performs about 500 PCR tests per day, and the new addition of the particular Cabinet which is in high demand at this critical juncture around the whole world, is worth about Rs 2 million.
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva accepting the unit on behalf of the Army expressed his profuse gratitude to the Chief Incumbent, laymen of the temple and the TV management for their timely considerateness and thoughtfulness.
This Biological Safety Cabinet is designed to protect the operator, laboratory environment and samples from being exposed to the infective aerosol produced when the sample is with bacteria strains, diagnostic material, and other infective subjects. It provides the operators with a more comfortable and safer working condition and is widely used in hospitals.
