The formal farewell ceremony for the retiring Major General Dammika Jayasundera, Colonel of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) was held on Tuesday (03) at the Regimental Centre, Mechanized Infantry Regiment at Dambulu Halmillewa.
The retiring Colonel of the Regiment was warmly received upon his arrival by Brigadier Sujith Balachandra, Overall Officer In Charge of Nelum Pokuna Theatre along with Brigadier Janaka Priyadarshana, Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Kumara Wanasinghe, Centre Commandant, Mechanized Infantry Regiment.
The formal military ceremony commenced soon after a formal Guard Turnout at the entrance greeted him. After that, he paid his tribute to the fallen war heroes at the monument before he took the salute of the Guard of Honour. It followed the planting of a sapling, troop address and an all ranks tea as customary features. As dusk fell, he participated in the formal dinner night hosted by the Regiment where his service was commended. He was presented a memento on the occasion as an appreciative gesture.
