Offering their share to the commemoration of the World Children’s Day, the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni launched a mega project to distribute a large stock of gifts and entertain children with sponsorship, provided by a Kalutara-based philanthropist under the guidelines given by Major General Dhammika Jayasinghe, Commander, Security Forces, Wanni.
Those events took place at Paranagama Wewa School in Welioya on Thursday (1) where school accessories to 150 school children of low income families in Welioya and 60 dry ration packs for selected families on account of the World Elders' Day were distributed by the troops with sponsorship, provided by Kalutara Prince Group of Companies, chaired by Mr. Lochana Wickramaarachchi and his family members. The teacher Iresha Anjaani and the businessman, Mr. Chaminda Dinesh assisted the coordination through the SFHQ - Wanni and its Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier Jagath Nishantha.
The commemoration ceremony, comprised of traditional dancing features and cultural spectacles provided variety and entertainment to all those participating. Security Force HQ - Wanni organized a competition of drawings and paintings, reading and writing competitions, representative of all of students. A certificate was also awarded to all students for participation in those competitions as an incentive. In addition, the SFHQ Wanni provided a sumptuous lunch for more than 300 children and participants in this event.
Finally a musical show provided enjoyment to the children who had gathered there. All participating children were awarded a gift pack before the culmination of the day's event.
General Officer Commanding of the 62 Division Brigadier Samantha Silva participated as the Chief Guest for the day.
Commander 621 Brigade Colonel Keerthi Perakum, Civil Affairs Officers in 62 Division, Commanding Officer of 14 (V) SLLI, Officers, Paranagama Wewa School Teachers, Students and Parents were among those who participated in those arrangements.
Meanwhile, on account of the World Children’s day, all ranks of the 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment through their own donations gave away 12 school stationery packs to needy children of five families at Bogaswewa School in Bogaswewa village on Thursday (1).
The Principal of Bogaswewa School, Civil Affairs Officer of 563 Infantry Brigade and Officer Commanding of Admin and Command Company and Other Ranks of 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment participated in this event.
In the meantime, 10 packs of dry rations, each worth about Rs 2500.00 were distributed among needy families in Periyakulam, Mannakulam and Kollayarpuliyankulam villages in coordination with the 561 Infantry Brigade troops on Wednesday (30).
Members of the ‘Padmahansa’ Community Service Project at Dehiwala sponsored the distribution.
The event was coordinated by the Commander, 561 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Priyantha Rathnayake under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division, Major Gen Wasantha Rathnayake De Abrew.
