652 Brigade Troops Clean up Irrigational Canal Left Unattended in Koddeikaddeyarkulam

Troops of the 7 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) and the villagers of Koddeikaddeyarkulam along with the officials of the Farmers’ Association in a ‘Shramadana’ community project cleaned up the 2.2 km long Koddeikaddeyarkulam irrigation canal on Sunday (23).

This is the main irrigation canal that provides water for cultivations from Koddeikaddeyarkulam tank covering an area of about 256 acres.

The General Officer Commanding, 65 Division, Major General Hemantha Bandara, Commander, 652 Brigade, Brigadier Anil Perera and the Commanding Officer, 7 SLNG made arrangements in this connection after it was found unattended for a long time and partly filled with mud, creepers and other elements.

More than 60 villagers/farmers joined hands with 7 SLNG troops and completed the project. Senior village leaders praised the Army for the initiative at the request of concerned farmers and villagers.
