Troops Plant Saplings in and around Wattapalai Kannaki Amman Hindu Temple Premises

Troops of the 59 Division-based in Wattappalai under the Security Force HQ- Mullaittivu, to be in line with the 'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' cultivation project of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army launched a tree planting project inside the Kannaki Amman Hindu Temple premises in Wattappalai on Monday (25). Major General Priyantha Perera, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 59 Division was present there as the Chief Guest for start of the project.

12 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 24 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops prepared the land around the sacred location and planted 26 Margosa saplings, each more than 7 feet in height.

This event was conducted on the directions of Major General Deepthi Jayathilake, Commander, Security Forces Mullaittivu with the objective of enhancing the forest-cover density in this region.
