New Acting DGAHS at AHQ Assumes Office

Brigadier Chrisantha Fernando assumed office as the acting Director General of the Army Health Services (DGAHS) at the Army Headquarters in a simple ceremony on Thursday (14) in his office. The newly- appointed Director General Health Services upon entering the office signed a document and symbolized the official acceptance of the new appointment. Before this appointment, he was serving as the Director Medical Services at the Colombo Army Hospital.

Staff Officers of the Directorate and several Officers were present at the occasion.

Here follows the brief profile of Brigadier (Dr) Chrisantha Fernando :

Brigadier Chrisantha Fernando is a Consultant Anesthetist by profession and obtained his MD in anaesthesiology from Post-Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2002 and also the Board certification as a Consultant in anesthetization in 2004.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1990 as a Second Lieutenant during his final year in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.

He followed overseas post-graduate training in anesthesia in UK at Royal London Hospital and London St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. He was the first Director of the Army Hospital Colombo in 2015.His active service in the field as an Army doctor during the military operations is well recognized and highly commended.

Brigadier Fernando has been decorated with Uththama Seva Padakkama, East Humanitarian Operation medal, North Humanitarian Operation medal, Purna Bhoomi medal and Riviresa campaign service medal.

He is an old boy of Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya and is married to Nilmini, a Consultant Transfusion Physician. They are blessed with 3 young children Aloka, Nirmal and Achintha. Sports brands | Sneakers
