Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) and troops under all its Divisions, Brigades and formations with the objective of providing maximum possible livelihood support to Jaffna peninsula-based underprivileged families who have been affected due to imposition of curfew against the spread of COVID-19 have launched multifaceted relief projects in close coordination with the District and Divisional Secretariats in the past few days on the guidelines given by respective Divisional Secretaries, Grama Seva officials and Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.
On Thursday (28) they distributed approximately 4,500 ration packs, provided by state agencies among the needy in the peninsula using Army vehicles and other resources. Troops according to details provided by state officials went to their houses with those dry ration packets, inclusive of rice, dhal, tinned fish, spices, vegetables, milk powder, etc.
Similarly, troops during last four days (25-28 March) in another project, coordinated jointly by the office of the Governor for Northern Province and the Jaffna District Secretariat went on distributing a consignment of about 24,000kg of wheat flour among 12,000 underprivileged families in the Jaffna peninsula. It was carried out under the close supervision of respective state officials and respective General Officers Commanding in Divisions, Commanders in Brigades and Commanders in different formations. Army trucks, buses and light vehicles were made available for this community-oriented project.
Meanwhile, troops in order to replenish blood stocks at the Blood Bank in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on Tuesday (24) gave away their blood during an arrangement, held at the 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (4 SLAMC) of the SFHQ-J.
