Commando-Built ‘Sirasa’ Sponsored New Home Vested in Needy Family

The MTV Network’s pet welfare project, ‘Sirasata 25 - Gewal 25’ on Monday (2) had Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest, together with Ms Needra Weerasinghe, Group Directress, MBC and MTV Network, Ms Niyomi Nalawansa, Chief Executive Officer, MBC, Mr Priyantha Wijesinghe, Director, Public Relations, MTV and Mr Susara Dinal, Chief Executive Officer, MTV for the warming ceremony of its 8th new house for a needy family in Mahara, Nugegoda in Kadawatha area.

Army engineering and technical staff in the nearby Commando Regiment (CR) at Ganemulla at the request of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva threw their full weight behind the project and constructed the entire house with raw materials and resources, made available by ‘Sirasa’ TV organizers.

The day’s Chief Guest Lieutenant General Silva on arrival at the location, together with ‘Sirasa’ organizers, Colonel A. S. P Silva, Centre Commandant, Commando Regiment, was welcomed and conducted to the location in a procession before the brief house warming ceremony commenced. Offering sheaves of betel and garlanding, members of the beneficiary family greeted Lieutenant General Silva and ‘Sirasa’ representatives soon after they reached the location.

Afterwards the day’s Chief Guest, together with ‘Sirasa’ representatives cut the ribbon at the entrance to the new house and warmed the house by lighting the traditional oil lamp after the beneficiaries received the keys.

The specific house construction project selected the recipients through respective Divisional Secretariats and Grama Niladhari sectors out of applications that had been directed to the ‘Sirasa’ organization. The needy family with a few children was living without any shelter in abject poverty when the sponsors in consultation with relevant parties selected the recipients.
