With a view to improving the spiritual development of athletes and upgrading their knowledge Major General Mahinda Mudalige, Commander, Security Forces-West and Chairman, Athletic Sports Federation on the instructions of the acting Chief of Defence Staff & Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, organized a few sports veterans to deliver educative lectures on the theme 'Vision of Sports and the Olympics'.
President National Sports Association and the former Commander of the Army (Retd) General Daya Rathnayake, Group Captain (Retd) of the National Olympic Committee, Mr Nalin de Silva and the Senior Olympic athlete, Ms Damayanthi Darsha spoke on the subject and educated more than 100 plus sportsmen and women during the arrangement.
Director, Directorate of Sports, Brigadier P.M.L. Chandrasiri was also present during the sessions. It was held on Wednesday (29) at the auditorium in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Centre at Panagoda.
The 'Olympic Philosophy' referring to the recent Olympics was taken up for discussion with focus on the Olympics town in Greece and the experiences gained by participation. The Sri Lankan athletes / Olympic achievers, Jayani Herath, Thilini Rathnayake, Sahara Perera, Daham Yakandawala and several others were present during lecture sessions.
