Major General P. Jayashantha Gamage of Gajaba Regiment assumed office as the new Military Secretary (MS) at the Army Headquarters on Tuesday (24) during a simple ceremony.
Lighting of the traditional oil lamp and performance of religious observances inaugurated the day’s programme before he symbolically placed his signature for an official document, signifying the acceptance of the new appointment.
He was the General Officer Commanding of the 53 Division before he was appointed to this appointment.
Major General P.J Gamage with his 33 years of military service has served various Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in the Sri Lanka Army.
Having joined the Army on 16 January 1986 as an Officer Cadet, he was posted to the Gajaba Regiment after his commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant. He has held many appointments during his career.
He succeeded Major General Ruwan de Silva who is to retire from the Army shortly after a distinguished career of more than 34 years.
