The Army-initiated mega national reforestation drive, ‘Thuruliya Wenuwen Api’ to be in line with the Presidential Secretariat’s ‘Wanropa’ project received an inspiring boost on Friday (18) morning when the Commander of the Army joined hands with over 1000 Kilinochchi students for a mammoth tree-planting drive, launched in collaboration with the ‘Thuru Sirasa’ of the ‘Sirasa’ TV.
The well-attended Kilinochchi reforestation drive in close cooperation with the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) got to an auspicious start with a brief inaugural ceremony at Mulankavil, Nagapaddawan Forest Reserve in Poonakary area with the objective of increasing the forest density in the Kilinochchi region.
The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva who proposed the project to the ‘Sirasa’ TV graced the inauguration in Kilinochchi, together with ‘Sirasa’ TV executives, students and teachers in the Mankulam Educational Zone, Mallavi National School (180), Yogapuram Maha Vidyalaya (100), Palinagar Maha Vidyalaya (100), Terankandal Government’s Tamil Mixed School (30), Thunukkai Tamil Mixed School (30) and Anichchiyankulam Tamil Mixed School (60).
Similarly, students and teachers in the Kilinochchi Educational Zone with students, learning at Mulankavil National School (300) and Nachchikuda Muslim School (150) also contributed to the ‘Thuru Sirasa’ re-forestation programme this morning (18), adding significance and strength to the efforts of the Security Forces.
Religious dignitaries, members of the civil community, state officials and ‘Sirasa’ TV officials were also present during the inaugural stage of the project for re-forestation. affiliate link trace | Klær Nike
