A full-day medical clinic for treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients in Kilinochchi area got underway following coordination done by the 65 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) in close cooperation with the ‘Manusath Derana’ Charity Foundation for underprivileged families on Saturday (24) at Vinayagar Public Ground in Mulankavil.
Around 1832 civilians living in Mulankavil and nearby areas received consultations from the medical clinic, consisted of a CKD pre-identification clinic, eye clinic and a dental clinic. 450 persons were screened in the CKD pre - Identification Clinic, out of which 28 cases were identified as chronically affected. Simultaneously, 415 and 60 persons attended the eye clinic and the dental clinic respectively.
During the medical clinic, 416 spectacles were also distributed among vision-impaired villagers in the area. 10 more Solar panels were also donated to needy families. In addition, 2.5 KV 3 generators were gifted to social/religious institutions in the area to receive electric power when needed. Meanwhile, 4 schools were gifted with valuable library books during the same ceremony for the benefit of students.
A water purification unit to the Ehetugaswewa Maha Vidyalaya was also gifted during the same ceremony. Distribution of 56 stationery packs for school children and 25 nutritious food packs among pregnant mothers also took place at the same location. Likewise, a stock of sports items were also donated to Mulankavil Sports Club.
In parallel, a blood donation campaign got underway at the same location with the participation of 116 Army personnel. Those blood donors were gifted with 150 coconut, mango and cashew saplings after they gave away blood.
In the meantime, Mulankavil and adjacent area residents were offered an opportunity to receive registration in the Sri Lanka Eye donation society enabling them to donate their eyes in the event of their death.
2 doctors and 7 medical assistants from Kilinochchi Regional Medical Officer Health (RMOH) office and Kilinochchi General Hospital supported the mega project.
Officers and soldiers of the 65 Division and under command Brigades and Battalions played an active role in organizing the series of events.
Mr Mahesh Jayawardane, Chairman, ‘Manusath Derana’ Project, together with 29 officials of the ‘Manusath Derana’ team, Mr E.M.H.B Moragaswewa and 6 members of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, Members of the Leasons Hospitals (Pvt) Ltd and Mr Asanka Perera, Managing Director of the Pure Tec Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, provided their best cooperation to conduct this medical campaign. Refreshments and snacks were provided by Ceylon Biscuits Limited, Prime Company and Nestle Lanka Limited.
